My 95 yr old Mother gave Power of Attorney & Medical Direct. to me, her daughter as part of her living trust?

Living Trust done by attorney in USA. Now we live in NZ (are citizens here-Mother born in NZ and I have Decent) and resthome is telling me they will not honor Power of Attorney & Directives done from USA?? They have told me I need to redo here in New Zealand for my Mother. Is this a fact? These were done several years ago with doctor verification and lawyers. Why would NZ not honor this?
