Can you use the new spiral light bulbs inside a globe on a ceiling fan or other light fixture?

In the past I read warnings on the new spiral bulbs not to use them inside globes, which I have on my ceiling fans and in some ceiling light fixtures. They represented a fire hazard, according to the warning. I don't find that same warning on the spirals I buy today. I don't want to leave the globe off and leave this spiral light bulb exposed. Are the new spiral lights acceptable to use inside light globes?
