How to fix a ceiling fan...?

I pulled the cord too hard on my kitchen ceiling fan and light and it broke off inside the fixture. I took the lights off and figured out where the problem was, and bought a new switch with a new chain. Now I'm trying to install it but the ends of the wires on the one I have are different from the one on the fixture. Also, I can't seem to get the plastic caps off the 2 groups of wires. Any advice?
